What is it?
Crisbee is a mixture of oil and beeswax that form a stable foodsafe product that melts easily to season and condition cookware.
Why did I choose this?
I was digging around on Amazon for pan seasoning oil, and I found Crisbee’s line of products. They use a combination of beeswax and soybean oil in a few different formats, including Stik, which is like a deodorant stick containing their product in solid form, and Cream, which is a drippy concoction in a tube.
The Crisbee Stik is the most stable, easiest to apply form of Crisbee that I’ve tried. I tried the cream as well, which works fine, but it is drippy, easier to waste, and doesn’t seem to stay “good” as long when a pan coated with it is left unused for a bit. A pan coated with the Crisbee Stik, by comparison, does not get tacky when left alone for a while.
Smithey and other hip online direct-to-consumer brands use a similar combination of beeswax and soybean oil. I took this as reinforcement that this was a good product for what I needed, which was seasoning my cast iron and carbon steel pans and maintaining them.
It looks like Misen actually formulated their seasoning oil blend with Crisbee, which is great. I like the Stik format because it’s easy to apply, but the Misen version is comparable if you are already ordering something from them.
Overall, I feel like this is a really dependable product. Every time I give my cookware a good scrubbing, I heat it to dry, apply a little of this, and wipe out as much as I can with a paper towel. Once it cools, it’s safe to store and next time I cook it will be hard to get anything to stick to it.
Where can you get one?
You can buy a Crisbee Stik on Amazon for $14.95.
